Vermont Day School is an independent PreK-8 school in Shelburne, Vermont. We are seeking an experienced Middle School Teacher to plan, develop and implement instruction in Mathematics for grades 6, 7 and 8. The Middle School Mathematics program follows a sequence of General Math, Foundations in Algebra, and Algebra. Students are grouped by skill level to ensure they are appropriately challenged and continuously engaged. Class sizes are small, which allows Teachers to develop a strong rapport with students and personalize learning. The overarching goal of Vermont Day School’s Middle School Math program is to provide students with the Mathematical tools to think and reason logically, analyze data and statistics, communicate effectively and confidently, and address real world questions and challenges.Teachers are provided with a curriculum to follow and also have flexibility to incorporate projects into Math which encourage students to apply their knowledge and skills and discover the usefulness of math in the world around them. As a member of the Middle School Faculty, the Math teacher will work collaboratively with colleagues to foster a strong community of Middle School students. This involves supporting the social-emotional growth and development of our students. In addition, the Teacher will be responsible for working collaboratively with other Middle School Faculty to offer Study Hall, Electives, Outdoor Education and Service Learning opportunities. The Middle School goes on two outdoor education trips per year, one in Vermont and one outside the state. Trips have included environmental education and cultural excursions to Costa Rica and Québec.
