Sisters of Mercy of the Americas Incorporated is Hiring a Personal Care Assistant Near Cumberland, RI

JOB PURPOSE:

Provides a variety of supportive services to Sisters residing in Long-term Care, Assisted Living and Independent Living environments. These services may include transporting Sisters to and from routine Doctor’s appointment, visits, shopping and other errands, as requested. Also provides pick-up and delivery services as requested. Performs car maintenance; gas and window-washer fill-ups. Demonstrates respectful treatment of the dignity, privacy, and individuality of Sisters and co-workers.

This mission serves as a motivational force in the day-to-day activities of the employees of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas and as we extend compassion and mercy to others, practice and encourage social justice, and strive to live mercifully.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Works with and takes direction from the RDHW to provide services for the Sisters.

2. Transports Sisters in a car according to the needs of the Sister. May accompany the Sister to an appointment and, when necessary, helps with registration. The Personal Support Assistant is expected to stand by for assistance when needed.

3. Shops for items as needed by the Sister and nursing, etc.

4. Consults with H&W services or Sister, as appropriate for pertinent information and instructions regarding the Sisters needs while traveling to and from an appointment.

5. Performs vehicle maintenance, i.e., filling gas and window-washer fluid; reports any car problems to RDHW.

6. Promptly reports any incidents/accidents with the passenger or the vehicle to the RDHW.

7. Participates in staff meetings and training as scheduled.

8. Performs other duties as assigned by RDHW.

9. Incorporates an understanding of the Mercy mission and values into work performance.

Safety

1. Follows all safety procedures and protocols and reports all hazardous conditions, defective equipment, accidents, or incidents to supervisor immediately.

2. Perceives potential problem situations and reports to supervisor.

3. Assists in maintaining a safe, neat, and clean environment; reports environmental deficiencies such as lighting or equipment problems to the Supervisor or Maintenance Department.

4. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of safety procedures.

5. Performs in a calm, resourceful manner in emergency situations.

Miscellaneous

1. Demonstrates initiative in observing what needs to be done and does it without having to be asked to do so.

2. Remains in compliance with employee handbook and other established community guidelines.

3. Communicates with co-workers, management, sisters, visitors, families, and others in a courteous, tactful and professional manner.

4. Conforms with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions,

5. Other duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Competencies and Experience:

Required:

1. High School diploma required.

2. Must possess a valid State Driver's License without any moving violations.

3. Ability and willingness to work flexible hours.

4. Ability to cultivate effective working relationships with a broad range of employees and external contacts.

5. Basic computer skills.

6. Knowledge and ability to self-manage time and work.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

2. Direct care experience with elders.

3. Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.

4. Willingness to consider the advice and opinions of others.

5. Ability to make decisions and accept responsibility for the consequences.

6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

7. Ability to be organized, resourceful and efficient.

8. Organizational skills and ability to establish priorities.

9. Capable of displaying self-motivation and sound decision-making ability.

10. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

11. Willingness to understand and appreciate the traditions and culture associated with the Sisters of Mercy and the Catholic Church.
