CRIMINAL INVESTIGATOR - GLYNN COUNTY

This is a full-time position with benefits with the Brunswick District Attorney's Office.


Summary
: The principal duties of this class are performed in a variety of environments. The principal function of an employee in this class is to investigate and assist in the prosecution of felony and misdemeanor cases. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with law enforcement and court personnel, a wide variety of professionals, defendants, victims, witnesses, County personnel, co-workers, and the general public.


Essential Functions of the Job: The following duties are normal for this position; other duties may be required and assigned:

  • Investigates cases, including conducting background checks and obtaining incident and crime lab reports, detective files, evidence and property sheets, prior conviction sheets, and all other necessary records;
  • Gives and presents testimony in court;
  • Prepares and serves affidavits and subpoenas;
  • Conducts searches and seizures of private property as authorized;
  • Subpoenas individuals and the production of records and case evidence as authorized;
  • Prepares, obtains, and serves search warrants;
  • Locates crime witnesses and prepares them to testify in court;
  • Interviews victims, witnesses, and defendants and obtains all pertinent information;
  • Observes, evaluates, measures, records, and preserves vital crime scene information;
  • Prepares and presents diagrams, charts, photographs, and other visual aids in court;
  • Provides assistance to prosecutors in the court room during trials;
  • Coordinates services with the District Attorney’s office and other appropriate personnel;
  • Maintains files and documentation as necessary;
  • Completes required case reports, forms, and documentation;
  • Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions;
  • Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems;
  • Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas;
  • Responds to citizens’ questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner;
  • Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities;
  • Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.


Minimum Qualifications:
must be a citizen of the United States, have a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent and not have been convicted by any state or by federal government of any crime. Must be a current P.O.S.T certified Georgia Peace Officer. Applicants must also demonstrate efficiency with a firearm and possess a valid Georgia Driver’s license. All candidates are subject to a background check. Applicants selected for hire will be subject to fingerprinting, a criminal history background check, a motor vehicle driver’s history check and pre-employment drug screening; employment is contingent upon the completion and satisfactory results of each investigation.
