Job Description

Job Description

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Survey Manager for a Health Impact Assessment (HIA) related to the construction of the Gordie Howe International Bridge (GHIB) in southwest Detroit. The Survey Manager will play a crucial role in overseeing the data collection process, managing a team of Interviewers, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of survey data. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and previous experience in survey administration. In addition the desired candidate will have lived experience or knowledge of the communities in southwest Detroit.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead on-the-ground management of approximately 350 household surveys in Detroit, ensuring adherence to research ethics and data collection protocols.
  • Assist recruitment, training and coordination of a survey team of 8-10 members.
  • Manage databases associated with survey administration, including informed consent documentation and participant incentives.
  • Conduct survey verification checks to ensure data accuracy and completeness.
  • Oversee scheduling of interviews in coordination with survey administrator team members, tracking completed and scheduled interviews.
  • Coordinate regular debrief sessions with the research team and survey administrators to address any issues or concerns.
  • Provide regular updates to the research team, and as needed inform on any issues or concerns.
  • Partner with research team to develop materials and presentations to facilitate translation and dissemination of research to diverse audiences.
  • Attend weekly meetings with research team.
  • Facilitate regular meetings with survey team and serve as liaison between survey team and research team.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience managing household surveys, including knowledge of research ethics, survey tracking and data management
  • Experience managing teams and leading project implementation
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Accessible and reliable - the schedule is somewhat flexible but Survey Manager must be able to communicate availability clearly to survey team, hold office hours, and be 'on-call' at times
  • Once hired, incumbent will be required to complete online PEERRS human subjects training through the University of Michigan (or equivalent)
  • Reliable means of transportation to travel

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience conducting household surveys
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
  • Comfort using tablets and survey software
  • Knowledge and/or interest in environmental issues, community organizing, community-based research, and/or green infrastructure
  • Knowledge of City of Detroit Southwest neighborhood geography
