  • Providing assistance and guidance to the general public and decision makers; conducting research; maintaining records and files; preparing reports.
  • Interacts with the public to respond to questions/inquiries relating to zoning and/or land development within the City of Sanford, Lee County or the Town of Broadway.
  • Prepares zoning permits and approvals.
  • Researches and drafts reports related to amendments to various codes/ordinances and/or land use plans.
  • Reviews site plans for development to ensure compliance with applicable ordinances.
  • Researches and drafts technical reports relating to annexation and other similar non-zoning issues.
  • Prepares and presents staff reports to elected and appointed boards.
  • Prepares legal notices, public notices for land use applications.
  • Prepares reports and other documents; maintains records and files.
  • Performs related tasks as required.

Qualifications

General knowledge of the principles and practices of planning; general knowledge of the Unified Development Ordinance and related codes, rules and regulations; some knowledge of applicable State laws, guidelines, rules and regulations; general knowledge in preparing technical reports, and other related documents; thorough knowledge in preparing grant applications, requests for proposals, etc.; general knowledge in the use of standard office equipment and associated software; comprehensive knowledge in the use of the equipment required for the position; general knowledge in the use of permitting/development review software; ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form; ability to make arithmetic computations; ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in urban planning, or related field and minimal experience in the planning profession. Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license upon hire. Must meet and maintain all certification, license and training requirements for position.
