Position Overview: The Director of Guidance holds a multifaceted role that encompasses teaching, coaching, counseling, and supervising students. Specific Duties:

General Guidance Responsibilities:

  • Conduct individual and small-group counseling sessions, addressing academic, personal, and college-related topics for students in grades 9 through 12.
  • Engage in large-group presentations to provide guidance on various subjects relevant to the student body.
  • Facilitate consistent communication and collaboration with parents, faculty, and administration to ensure students' well-being and address their specific needs throughout the academic year.
  • Act as a crisis counselor, promptly responding to emergent issues that arise during the school day.

Testing Coordinator Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Individualized Education Program (IEP) and 504 programs at Saint Saviour, which involves reviewing incoming students' IEPs, applying for SAT/ACT extra time accommodations, coordinating documents for renewal meetings, and actively participating in annual renewal meetings for students with accommodations.
  • Serve as the primary contact for College Board-related matters, managing SAT, PSAT, and AP examinations for students. This includes ordering tests, overseeing the proctoring process, and ensuring exams are mailed back to College Board in accordance with their guidelines.
  • Act as the point person for Supplemental Educational Services (SETTS) and ensure the SETTS teacher has access to all relevant information necessary for effective support.

College Counselor Responsibilities:

  • Provide college exploration and planning support for juniors and seniors, assisting them in finding suitable institutions based on their interests and goals.
  • Offer guidance on standardized test preparation and registration to meet college admissions requirements.
  • Assist seniors in developing a strong college application strategy, including guidance on personal statements and supplemental materials.
  • Advise students on selecting teachers for recommendation letters and ensure timely submission of application materials.
  • Support students and parents in navigating financial aid options and scholarship opportunities.
