Sonrisas Dental Health is Hiring a Development Associate Near San Mateo, CA

Sonrisas Dental Health, Inc. (SDH) is a non-profit dental center dedicated to providing access to quality dental care and oral health education to our community. We provide these services with dignity, respect, and compassion. SDH improves the health of our community members through culturally sensitive, integrated care, with a focus on disease prevention. SDH is a dental home for our patients, providing preventative dental care, mobile dental, general dentistry, geriatric dentistry, pediatric dentistry, sedation dentistry and accommodations for patients with special needs and disabilities. Seventy-five percent of SDH’s patients are low-income.

Position: Under the direct supervision of the Community Resources Director (Director of Development), this role provides administrative support to Sonrisas’ fundraising and communications functions. The Development Associate enters, reconciles, and acknowledges monetary and in-kind donations, maintains meeting agendas and minutes, gathers and reports on programmatic data on a periodic basis and upon request, performs basic funder background research, supports and attends fundraising events, assists with logistics of storytelling, coordinates and monitors external campaigns and communications, including mail, email and social media, and provides specific support to the Community Resources Director.

Education/Experience/Licensure:

  • 2 years nonprofit or administrative experience, with a strong focus on database management
  • Use of fundraising database software or CRM
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Effective written and oral communication
  • Passion for contributing to the health of the community
  • Spanish speaking preferred

Job Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Accurately and timely enters and acknowledges all gifts, including monetary (and equivalent) gifts, event contributions & ticket sales, and gifts in kind.
  • Maintains current and updated gift and donor classifications in donor database system.
  • Aggregates and reports on program data by using program databases or systems.
  • Generates data visuals such as simple charts using program and/or fundraising data.
  • Maintains pledges and sends invoices to collect payment.
  • Maintains fundraising calendar and current contact information of fundraising personnel, including Board members.
  • Drafts and maintains agendas and minutes of all Development related meetings.
  • Assists in donor and funder cultivation by producing giving reports and compiling basic research.
  • Supports events by maintaining guest, sponsor, and vendor lists and records, coordinating with vendors, recruiting event support personnel as needed, and attending. Event-specific tasks are to be assigned by the CRD.
  • Coordinates with vendors and contractors for all Development-related functions.
  • Supports institutional giving by producing program data reports and becoming familiar with institutional donors and their giving areas.
  • Assists with storytelling and communications logistics, including by taking photos, drafting notes, and drafting social media posts.
  • Works with program staff and CRD to bring a development lens and focus integral to all Sonrisas activities-cultivates a culture of philanthropy.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • High degree of comfort, competency in and experience with database use and management: experience using and managing nonprofit donor databases preferred.
  • High degree of competency is common Office tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, and/or Google Suite equivalents.
  • Competency or willingness and ability to quickly learn simple graphics, email, and social media tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to summarize information, take effective notes, and effectively communicate in writing and verbally.
