American Jewish Committee is Hiring a Remote Alexander Assistant Director

The Alexander Assistant Director for AJC Washington D.C. is a critical component of AJC’s Washington D.C. Regional Office, serving Maryland, Virginia, the District of Columbia, and West Virginia. S/he will work with AJC lay leader activists— members of ACCESS, AJC’s young professional division, as well as high school students — to shape the future of global Jewish advocacy.

The Aleander Assistant Director will work collaboratively with AJC’s Washington D.C. Regional Office and the national Alexander Young Leadership Department team to grow opportunities for young professionals and students locally and nationally.

The Alexander Assistant Director will do this while adhering to AJC’s core values: Respect, Teamwork, Integrity, Excellence, and Accountability.

Position Responsibilities:

ACCESS

  • Identify phenomenal Jewish young professionals, engage them in ACCESS, and transform them into leaders in AJC and financial supporters of AJC’s mission.
  • Direct, work with, and manage the ACCESS DC Board to support their advocacy, program development and financial contributions to AJC.
  • Implement and plan ACCESS programs, meetings, and events in close coordination with regional and ACCESS Global staff.
  • Recruit ACCESS supporters to attend AJC Global Forum.
  • Support ACCESS engagement with elected officials and diplomats through advocacy meetings and programming.
  • Develop and expand joint advocacy and diplomatic opportunities with community partners from other religious, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Identify, cultivate, and steward ACCESS donors towards AJC's philanthropic efforts, and solicit new and existing ACCESS gifts for the AJC annual campaign.
  • Leaders for Tomorrow (LFT)
  • Spearhead recruitment of AJC’s Leaders for Tomorrow program for high school students.
  • Support and facilitate seven yearly LFT sessions focused on issues related to Jewish advocacy, including antisemitism, Israel, and Jewish identity.
  • Support the growth of LFT alumni.
  • The AAD may be asked to perform additional tasks as directed by the Director of AJC Washington D.C..

Qualifications:

  • Enjoys empowering and cultivating the leadership skills of others
  • Respect for and interest in working with diverse faith and ethnic communities
  • Comfortable soliciting people for financial support of AJC, but no previous fundraising experience required.
  • Aligned with AJC’s mission and diplomatic style, with knowledge and passion for the organization’s key issues (including Israel, world Jewry, human rights, international relations, foreign policy, and democratic institutions)
  • Self-starter who collaborates seamlessly with colleagues both inside and outside AJC
  • Enthusiastic about learning new skills
  • Attuned communicator with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Able to identify and pursue opportunities
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail
  • Adept at time management with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously
  • Available to work evenings and weekends and to travel occasionally
  • A team player with a sense of humor
  • Bachelor's degree and 4-6 years of professional experience
