FMP Consulting is currently seeking a Section 508 Compliance Specialist to join our growing team.

As a Section 508 Compliance Specialist at FMP, you will be responsible providing Section 508 remediation for documents and training internal and external clients on document accessibility and Section 508.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and remediate documents to ensure compliance with Section 508 requirements, including MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Adobe PDF, and MS Excel documents

  • Use software tools to identify and remediate errors in document structure, headings, reading order, images, charts and tables, and hyperlinks

  • Prepare templates for authors to use in document preparation

  • Provide informal training on Section 508 requirements for documents to enable others to create documents that require less remediation

  • Create accessible PDF forms

  • Stay current on Section 508 policy and federal agency accessibility checklists

  • Evaluate Section 508 testing tools and new software

Qualifications


Required Experience/Qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience providing Section 508 remediation for documents, including MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Adobe PDF, and MS Excel documents
  • 5 years of formatting experience in MS Word and MS PowerPoint
  • Proven experience creating Section 508 accessible PDF forms
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
  • Strong grammar, spelling, and writing skills
  • Ability to function effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Stamina to produce high-quality documents and presentations in a fast-paced work environment
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to quickly learn and integrate new tools and technologies to meet customer needs
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences (orally and in written form)
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field of study and a minimum of 2 years relative Section 508 Compliance and Accessibility Technology experience; or equivalent combination of education / experience

Preferred Experience/Qualifications:

  • International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) Accessible Document Specialist (ADS) Credential
  • Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Section 508 Trusted Tester Certification
  • Knowledge of the Section 508 standards for the web and 508 file remediation using MS Office products
  • Experience using tools and test processes to evaluate websites and web applications for conformance to Section 508 standards
