Summary:
Under general direction of the Tribal Administrator, the Information Technology Director is responsible for the planning, implementation, administration, and security of the Yerington Paiute Tribe’s information technology systems and infrastructure. The IT Director oversees the Tribe’s network environment including intranet, internet, telecommunications systems, servers, cybersecurity, applications, email systems, and end-user support services.
The IT Director serves as the Tribe’s primary point of contact for all information technology services including system administration, network security, application support, telecommunications management, email administration, helpdesk operations, equipment management, and website oversight. The position advises Tribal leadership on technology planning, information security, risk management, and technology solutions that support tribal government operations and program services.
The IT Director supervises assigned IT staff, including the IT Technician, and ensures the efficient operation of the Tribe’s technology systems while supporting departmental and organizational technology needs.
Responsibilities:
IT Infrastructure & Operations
- Maintain essential IT operations including operating systems, security tools, applications, servers, email systems, desktops, laptops, mobile devices, software, and hardware.
- Manage the Tribe’s network infrastructure including LAN, WAN, internet connectivity, and internal systems.
- Administer servers, workstations, and hosted or cloud-based systems while implementing necessary updates, patches, and upgrades.
- Monitor and maintain system performance, availability, and security across all IT systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues affecting internal operations.
Email Systems Administration
- Manage and administer the Tribe’s organizational email systems including account creation, configuration, permissions, and security settings.
- Maintain email security including spam filtering, phishing protection, access controls, and account recovery procedures.
- Coordinate with email service providers and vendors to ensure system reliability, security, and service continuity.
- Troubleshoot and resolve email system issues including account access, delivery failures, and system outages.
- Implement and maintain email retention, archiving, and backup procedures consistent with organizational policies.
Telecommunications Systems Management
- Manage and maintain the Tribe’s telecommunications infrastructure including office phone systems, VoIP systems, network phones, and related communication technologies.
- Coordinate with telecommunications vendors and service providers for phone systems, internet services, and related communications infrastructure.
- Manage cellular phone services for the Tribe including coordination with cellular providers, device management, service plans, billing review, and account administration.
- Track and maintain inventory of all communication devices including cell phones, desk phones, and related equipment.
- Provide technical support for telecommunications systems including troubleshooting phone connectivity, voicemail systems, and call routing configurations.
Vendor Management & Quality Assurance
- Work directly with technology service providers to ensure quality service delivery, system reliability, and compliance with service agreements.
- Monitor vendor performance and address service disruptions, outages, or performance issues.
- Coordinate with internet, telecommunications, and technology vendors to maintain consistent service levels and system uptime.
- Evaluate vendor services and recommend improvements or alternative providers when necessary to ensure the Tribe receives the best value and performance.
IT Support & Help Desk Services
- Develop, implement, and manage a responsive IT Help Desk to address staff requests and technical issues.
- Provide technical support to tribal departments including troubleshooting login issues, resolving system errors, and assisting with technology-related questions.
- Ensure timely resolution of IT support requests through in-person, phone, or electronic communication.
- Develop user guides and technical documentation for staff and update materials as systems evolve.
Technology Planning & Strategic Development
- Research, evaluate, and recommend emerging technologies, software, and hardware solutions to improve tribal operations.
- Analyze departmental needs and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity, and security through technology solutions.
- Conduct cost-benefit analysis and provide recommendations for technology investments and upgrades.
- Develop long-range IT planning strategies to support tribal programs, services, and infrastructure needs.
Cybersecurity & Data Protection
- Implement and maintain cybersecurity policies, procedures, and controls to protect tribal data and information systems.
- Establish and maintain disaster recovery plans and backup procedures to ensure business continuity.
- Monitor systems for vulnerabilities and security risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Maintain compliance with applicable data security standards, grant requirements, and best practices.
Project Management & Systems Implementation
- Lead and coordinate major IT projects including system upgrades, technology deployments, and infrastructure improvements.
- Design, develop, implement, and maintain IT systems, policies, and procedures to support organizational operations.
- Collaborate with department leadership to identify business requirements and develop technological solutions.
- Assess vendors and coordinate testing strategies for new hardware and software implementations.
Asset Management
- Maintain inventory of all IT equipment including computers, mobile devices, servers, software licenses, telecommunications equipment, and related technology assets.
- Track assignment and lifecycle management of tribal technology assets.
Website & Communications Technology
- Coordinate with tribal departments to maintain current and accurate information on the Tribe’s website.
- Support communications technologies including email systems, remote access systems, and collaboration platforms.
Staff Supervision
- Supervise assigned IT staff including the IT Technician.
- Assign, prioritize, and review work to ensure timely completion of IT tasks and service requests.
- Provide training, guidance, and technical support to IT staff.
- Conduct performance evaluations and assist with staff development and training opportunities.
Organizational Standards
- Maintain quality IT services by developing and enforcing technology standards and best practices.
- Provide technology training and support to tribal staff when necessary.
- Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Information Security, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in information technology systems administration, network management, cybersecurity, telecommunications management, or related IT operations.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties of the position may be considered.
- Experience supporting enterprise IT systems including servers, networking infrastructure, telecommunications systems, and email platforms.
- Must successfully pass a background check.
- Must possess or obtain a valid NV driver’s license.
- Must comply with all Tribal policies and confidentiality requirements.
- Experience working within Tribal government, public sector, or grant-funded environments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and enterprise IT systems.
