LEAD FIRE ALARM / SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN

What You'll Do

1. Field Leadership & Project Execution

You'll lead commercial fire alarm, life safety, and low-voltage projects from mobilization through final acceptance: coordinating your techs, planning daily and weekly work sequences to keep the crew productive, and adjusting on the fly to keep everything safe, on schedule, on budget, and code-compliant.

You'll coordinate with PMs, GCs, AHJs, fire marshals, testing agencies, engineers, and customers to keep projects moving: scheduling inspections, presenting documentation, demonstrating functionality, and resolving deficiencies fast.

You'll track progress against schedule and budget, flag risks early, and loop in the Fire and Security Manager before they become problems.

Systems Installation Oversight

You'll supervise and perform installation of:

Fire Alarm Systems: addressable and conventional FACP, emergency communication systems, voice evacuation, mass notification, and networked fire alarm systems from major manufacturers including Fire-Lite, Notifier, Silent Knight, EST, Siemens, Potter, Bosch, Honeywell, and others.

Low Voltage Systems: access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, structured cabling, data networks, intercom, nurse call, area of refuge, and public address systems.

Specialty Interfaces: elevator recall, smoke control interfaces, fire pump monitoring, generator monitoring, and building automation system integration.

Programming, Testing & Commissioning

You'll program fire alarm control panels and networked systems from multiple manufacturers: device points, zones, output functions, communications pathways, and system-level operations per design and project requirements.

You'll run complete acceptance testing and commissioning per NFPA 72 (100% device testing, integrated system functional testing, notification appliance coverage verification), and maintain software backups and current programming documentation for every system under your responsibility.

2. Service, Troubleshooting & Maintenance

You'll diagnose and resolve complex issues across fire alarm control panels, initiating devices, notification appliances, network communications, access control, surveillance, and structured cabling, using real troubleshooting methodology.

You'll respond to service calls fast and professionally, minimizing customer downtime and fixing issues for good, not just for now.

You'll perform preventive maintenance per NFPA 72 ITM schedules, completing every required test, documenting results, and communicating deficiencies and recommendations to the customer, and take part in the on-call rotation for emergency service response when critical life-safety failures need immediate attention.

3. Code Compliance & Quality Assurance

You'll make sure all work meets NFPA 72, NEC, IBC, local fire codes, AHJ requirements, and our own workmanship standards.

You'll run ongoing quality inspections through the life of a project (checking installation methods, wire management, device placement, and documentation), and prepare and organize project documentation: as-builts, test reports, inspection reports, deficiency reports, service reports, commissioning docs, and warranty records.

You'll grow future lead techs by giving your senior technicians expanded responsibility and real coaching, so they're ready to guide the apprentices and junior techs coming up behind them.

You'll be the primary field trainer for Fire and Security Assistant Technicians, Integrators, and apprentice technicians (installation methods, NFPA 72 requirements, programming procedures, testing protocols, documentation, and customer service expectations), spotting training needs and certification opportunities to support their career growth.

What You Bring

Minimum 4 years of fire alarm installation, service, or fire and security experience with a demonstrated ability to lead projects and field crews independently.

Experience troubleshooting and programming addressable fire alarm systems from major manufacturers.

Strong knowledge of NFPA 72, NEC, and IBC requirements applicable to fire alarm and life safety systems.

Valid driver's license; ability to pass background checks; ability to participate in on-call rotation.

OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Certification, current and in good standing.

Have a State Journeyman Electrician License, or be actively working towards licensure.

Nice to Haves

NICET Fire Alarm Certification (Level II or higher strongly preferred; Level IV ideal for senior candidates).

OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification.

Manufacturer certifications from Fire-Lite,

Pay: $31.00 - $43.00 per hour
