What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Manager - Electrical Construction position at Yankee Electric & Co. LLC?
General Manager
Architect of Operations & Scalable, Margin-Driven Growth
Seat on the Leadership Team
Full-Time, Exempt | Reports To: CEO | Location: Rochester, NH
The Opportunity
Our strategic plan requires doubling top-line revenue over a three-year cycle while maintaining an EBITDA margin of 20% or better. We manage our pipeline carefully, selecting and executing only the projects aligned with our goals that we can staff properly and deliver to our performance standards.
Reporting directly to the CEO, you will hold the senior operational seat in the company. You will carry full operational responsibility to ensure our performance standards, budget allocation, and management team align completely with company objectives. We need an executive who runs the business with the mindset and accountability of an owner, someone who takes direct responsibility for bottom-line results and can build the functional infrastructure required to support the company as it scales.
Our Core Values
As General Manager, you will own the company's culture and hold its leaders accountable to our four core values:
- Trust is Our Foundation: We build lasting relationships through integrity, accountability, transparency, and reliability: doing what we say, owning our mistakes, and treating every person the way we'd want to be treated.
- Always Learning, Always Teaching: We chase continuous improvement in everything we do, invest in the growth of those around us, and generously share what we know.
- Teamwork is Our Edge: We get exceptional results through collaboration, open communication, and genuine mutual support across every project and every department.
- Our Work is Our Proof: We let the quality of our work, the professionalism of our conduct, and the results we deliver speak for themselves in every task, project, and client interaction.
Core Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Your performance will be measured objectively across these weighted baseline metrics:
- Financial Performance (50%): Double total company revenue within 3 years (approximately 26% growth per year) while maintaining an EBITDA margin of at least 20%, both measured against the prior fiscal year. Maintain forecast accuracy of at least 90%, and hold the Quick Ratio above 1.2 and Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) under 45 days at each month-end close.
- Talent, Leadership & Bench Development (40%): Fill key positions within 45 days and achieve a 90-day new-hire success rate of at least 80%. Hold regrettable turnover at or below 10% and total turnover at or below 20% annually. Complete 100% of performance evaluations and semi-annual wage band reviews on schedule, maintain monthly 1:1 completion of at least 90%, and increase the internal promotion rate year over year. Maintain a documented, ready-now successor for every critical leadership position.
- Safety & Risk (10%): Maintain a Workers' Compensation Experience Modification (MOD) Rate below 0.90 at each policy renewal, with no preventable claims driving a rate increase year over year.
Primary Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership & Execution: Run the business on GSBH's operating system and hold the leadership team to it. Set quarterly and annual Rocks, and align staffing, field capacity, and the budget behind them.
- Financial Performance: Own the revenue and margin targets through disciplined pricing, estimating, and change-order management, reliable forecasting, and consistent collections. Review results monthly with Finance and report quarterly to the CEO and Board.
- Leadership Team & Succession: Develop managers who meet their goals and continue to grow. Maintain a written succession plan for the GM role and every critical leadership position, and hold each manager accountable for preparing at least one direct report to step up.
- Culture & Workplace of Choice: Model our core values in every decision, especially the difficult ones. Establish the business as a place where good people want to work and want to stay, with safety first on every job.
- Hiring, Retention & Compensation: Fill key roles within 45 days without lowering the standard for skill or fit. Retain strong performers through fair pay, real development, and clear paths to promotion. Ensure every employee is reviewed against the wage bands twice a year and that every off-cycle adjustment is documented and approved.
- Operations & Workforce Planning: Keep field staffing matched to what estimating and sales have sold. Maintain a rolling 12-month workforce plan, update it quarterly, and identify critical hiring needs at least 60 days in advance. Build systems that will hold up as the company doubles in size.
Qualifications
- Experience: Senior leadership experience in electrical contracting, construction, field services, or a similar operations-heavy business, with direct P&L responsibility. Must have a verified history of managing multiple departments at once and answering for both financial and workforce results.
- Financial Acumen: Strong working knowledge of financial statements, with the ability to identify what is driving performance and act on it in pricing, margin, and cash decisions.
- Talent Leadership: A demonstrated track record of hiring, developing, and retaining strong teams in a tight labor market.
- Operating System Experience: Hands-on experience running a business on EOS or a comparable framework.
- Communication: Clear, direct communication that earns the trust of field crews, managers, and ownership alike.
- Licensing & Education (Preferred): Master Electrician License or equivalent technical depth from industry experience. Advanced business or leadership education will be weighted favorably.
