What are the responsibilities and job description for the FIRE AND SECURITY ASSISTANT TECHNICIAN position at Yankee Electric & Co. LLC?
Fire and Security Assistant Technician
Yankee Electric & Co. is looking for a Fire and Security Assistant Technician to join our Fire and Security Division. This is an entry-level role and the first step on a technical career path — you'll learn to install, wire, test, and maintain commercial fire alarm, life safety, and low-voltage security systems by working alongside experienced Lead Technicians, with a clear path to grow into an Integrator or Fire and Security Technician.
You don't need prior experience in the trade. What we're looking for is someone coachable, reliable, and safety-minded who wants to build a real skill set from the ground up.
What You'll Do
Support Lead Technicians and Integrators on fire alarm and low-voltage security installations — staging materials, assisting with rough-in and trim-out, mounting devices, and pulling and terminating cable
Get hands-on exposure across fire alarm systems, access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, and structured cabling
Assist with device-level testing, inspections, and preventive maintenance visits under direct supervision
Learn to complete basic field documentation — material tickets, daily logs, and testing checklists
Keep jobsites and vehicles clean, organized, and safe
Participate in ongoing on-the-job training and pursue certifications toward advancement
What You Bring
High school diploma or equivalent (or currently pursuing)
Basic mechanical aptitude
Valid driver's license; able to pass a background check and drug screening
Able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, work at heights, and handle varied jobsite conditions
Reliable attendance, strong work ethic, and openness to coaching
OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Certification (required prior to hire)
An Apprentice Electrician License and any applicable state low-voltage/fire alarm apprentice registration — or actively working toward enrollment
Nice to haves: prior experience in construction, electrical work, or another hands-on trade; interest in pursuing NICET certification or a State Journeyman Electrician License down the road.
Why Yankee Electric & Co.
We build careers, not just fill positions. Our team lives by a simple idea — leaders building leaders — where the training and safety habits passed down to you are yours to pass forward to the next person coming up behind you. We invest in real, structured growth: you'll shadow experienced techs, work toward certifications, and take on more responsibility as you're ready for it.
This isn't a complete list of everything the role touches — the work shifts as the business does, and duties may be adjusted as needs change.
