Lead Vehicle Mechanic

Summary
We are seeking an experienced and skilled Lead Vehicle Mechanic to join our Transportation Department. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of a diverse fleet of vehicles, ensuring they are safe, efficient, and compliant with all regulations. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership abilities, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the vehicle maintenance team, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to safety protocols.
• Perform diagnostic assessments, repairs, and routine maintenance on a variety of vehicles, including light-duty and heavy-duty models.
• Develop and implement maintenance schedules to minimize vehicle downtime and extend the lifespan of the fleet.
• Train and mentor junior mechanics, providing guidance on best practices and troubleshooting techniques.
• Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance, and inspections, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Collaborate with the procurement team to order necessary parts and supplies, managing inventory effectively.
• Conduct regular inspections of vehicles to identify potential issues and recommend preventive measures.
• Communicate effectively with management and other departments regarding vehicle status and maintenance needs.
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends, technologies, and best practices to enhance service delivery.
• Ensure a clean and organized work environment, adhering to all safety standards and regulations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in automotive technology is preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience as a vehicle mechanic preferred.
• Strong knowledge of vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and diagnostics.
• Proficient in using diagnostic tools and repair equipment.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong leadership and communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; additional certifications (e.g., ASE) are a plus.
• Physical ability to lift heavy equipment and work in various environmental conditions.
