Dixon Special Education Teacher

Summary
Dixon Elementary School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team on a full-time basis. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment for students with diverse needs. This role requires a collaborative spirit, creativity, and a deep understanding of individualized education plans (IEPs) to support the academic and social development of students with disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to the unique needs of each student.
• Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and support staff to create an inclusive classroom environment.
• Assess students' progress and adapt instructional strategies to meet varying learning styles and abilities.
• Provide direct instruction and support to students in both one-on-one and small group settings.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, IEP goals, and assessments.
• Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders regarding student progress and needs.
• Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance instructional practices and stay current with special education regulations and best practices.
• Foster a positive and supportive classroom environment that encourages student engagement, independence, and self-advocacy.
• Collaborate with external service providers and community resources to support student needs.
• Uphold school policies and procedures while promoting a culture of respect and inclusivity.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Valid state teaching certification in Special Education.
• Experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in an elementary school setting.
• Strong understanding of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and families.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Proficiency in using technology and educational software to enhance learning experiences.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and a willingness to adapt to new teaching methodologies.
• Ability to create a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for all students.
