About The Opportunity

A well-established, family-owned commercial general contractor with over 50 years of experience is seeking an experienced Commercial Project Superintendent to oversee the construction of an active elementary school project in the Ashland/Hanover County, VA area.

This is an immediate hiring need for a project that is already under construction. The ideal candidate must be able to step into an active jobsite, maintain project momentum, coordinate field operations, and ensure the project is delivered safely, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards.

Position Summary

The Commercial Project Superintendent will be responsible for managing all field operations, coordinating subcontractors, maintaining project schedules, enforcing safety standards, and ensuring quality workmanship throughout the construction process. This individual will serve as the primary on-site leader and work closely with project management, owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all day-to-day field operations for an active commercial construction project.
• Manage and supervise subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel.
• Maintain project schedules and proactively resolve field issues.
• Coordinate daily construction activities to keep the project on track.
• Ensure work complies with project plans, specifications, and quality standards.
• Enforce OSHA regulations and maintain a safe, organized jobsite.
• Conduct daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and jobsite inspections.
• Coordinate inspections with owners, architects, engineers, and local authorities.
• Review construction drawings and identify potential conflicts before they impact the schedule.
• Monitor productivity, manpower, and project progress.
• Prepare daily reports and maintain accurate project documentation.
• Coordinate material deliveries, equipment, and site logistics.
• Work closely with the Project Manager to achieve project milestones.
• Maintain strong communication with all project stakeholders.
  
  

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of commercial construction experience.
• Proven experience as a Commercial Project Superintendent on ground-up commercial building projects.
• Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple subcontractors simultaneously.
• Strong understanding of commercial construction methods and sequencing.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations and jobsite safety.
• Experience working with owners, architects, engineers, and inspectors.
• Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Procore, Bluebeam, or similar construction management software is a plus.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing K-12 schools, educational facilities, municipal, government, or institutional construction projects.
• Experience taking over projects that are already under construction.
• OSHA 30 certification preferred.
• CPR/First Aid certification is a plus.
