Tivoli Storage Management (TSM) Consultant

Remote (U.S.-Based) | Eastern Time Hours Required

Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) / IBM Spectrum Protect Consultant to support a major grocery supply chain client. This is a consultant-level role focused on expert assessment, troubleshooting, and recommendations—not hands-on administration.

The consultant will evaluate the current backup environment, diagnose performance issues (especially replication and VMware configuration), and guide infrastructure teams on how to implement improvements. Strong communication skills are essential, as this role interacts with senior leaders and technical teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess and analyze the client’s IBM Spectrum Protect / TSM environment (8–10 servers).
• Review performance, replication, VMware data movers, and database configuration (7TB DB).
• Identify root causes of slow replication and backup performance issues.
• Provide clear, data-driven recommendations to improve configuration and efficiency.
• Guide admins and DXC infrastructure teams on how to implement changes (consulting, not doing).
• Work with IBM support as needed to evaluate issues and determine corrective actions.
• Advise on future plans, including an upcoming migration to Rubrik and cloud-based storage.
• Communicate findings and recommendations to directors and executives.

• VMware backup (3,000–4,000 VMs)
• AIX, Linux, and mainframe backup sources
• Storage: HPE Primera, 3PAR, Isilon, v7000, HP Scality (S3)
• Two data centers (Greenville & Salisbury)
• 20PB storage footprint
• Automated backup environment
• Migration planned from disk ? cloud and TSM ? Rubrik
  
  

Required Qualifications

• Strong hands-on expertise with TSM / IBM Spectrum Protect
• Experience analyzing performance, configuration, replication, and data movers
• Ability to recognize critical datasets and design appropriate monitoring rules
• Strong understanding of VMware backup architecture
• Excellent communication and presentation skills (executive-facing)
• U.S.-based, able to work Eastern Time hours
• Consultant mindset — strategic, logical, and able to explain the “why” behind decisions
• Experience guiding teams or advising senior leadership

• Background in enterprise-scale backup environments
