About the Role
Val Verde Regional Medical Center (VVRMC) is seeking a highly skilled Certified Surgical First Assistant (CFA / CST-FA) to join our Operating Room team. In this role, you will work directly alongside surgeons to support a wide range of surgical procedures, ensuring optimal patient outcomes through precision, preparation, and technical expertise.

What You’ll Do
- Assist surgeons during operative and invasive procedures
- Provide surgical exposure, hemostasis, suturing, and stapling
- Anticipate surgeon needs and support the intraoperative workflow
- Position, prep, and drape patients according to procedure requirements
- Assist with wound closure and apply dressings per surgeon direction
- Maintain sterile field and adhere to strict aseptic technique
- Perform and verify accurate surgical counts (instruments, sponges, needles)
- Handle and manage surgical specimens according to protocol
- Prepare operating rooms with appropriate instruments, supplies, and equipment
- Ensure patient safety, dignity, and privacy throughout procedures
- Adapt care to meet the needs of patients across all age groups
- Communicate effectively with surgeons, nurses, and OR staff
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized surgical environment
- Participate in performance improvement and departmental initiatives
- Perform other duties as assigned
What We’re Looking For
- Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
- Certification as a Certified First Assistant (CFA) through LCC-ST (AST affiliated)
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and sterile techniques
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to perform effectively in a high-pressure surgical environment
