Lathe Machinist
Overview
The Lathe Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and troubleshooting CNC lathe equipment to produce precision components. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain accuracy throughout the machining process.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, locate, and load materials using necessary equipment such as cranes and forklifts.
- Review job packets to understand setups, specifications, and job requirements.
- Measure parts and verify dimensions to ensure accuracy and compliance with drawings.
- Load CNC programs and verify accuracy through test runs or real-time monitoring.
- Perform machining operations including drilling, boring, reaming, tapping, turning, and facing.
- Continuously monitor machine operation to ensure proper speeds, feeds, and part quality.
- Write basic CNC programs and make edits to CAM programs when required.
- Improve machining processes by documenting and implementing more efficient methods in programming, tooling, and setup.
- Deburr, clean, and finish completed parts as needed.
- Unload completed components and ensure proper transfer to the next work center.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Notify management of any machine issues, tool wear, or consumable needs.
Required Skills
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Proficiency with measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, and tape measures.
- Strong mathematical skills, including algebra and geometry.
- High attention to detail and a strong focus on part accuracy.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
Qualifications
- Mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills.
- Preferably 1 year of machining experience or completion of a relevant trade school program (not required).
