JOB The University of North Alabama is accepting applications for the position of Non-Tenure-Track, Lecturer in Biology to begin in August 2026. The successful candidate will primarily teach majors and non-majors introductory biology lectures and laboratories and be responsible for coordinating introductory biology laboratories; in addition, this position entails managing the department’s greenhouse, supervision of student workers, maintenance of proper supply inventories, and other relevant duties including service to the department, college, and university. Standard workload for this position is 15 semester hours, but lab coordination duties will be considered part of that workload. Preference may be given to candidates who can additionally teach Human Anatomy & Physiology or Clinical Microbiology.

Sponsorship is not available for this position. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES The successful candidate will mainly be required to teach introductory biology laboratories, both for non-majors and for biology majors; non-majors introductory biology lectures will also be a frequent teaching responsibility. Depending on the candidate’s background, the successful candidate may also teach Human Anatomy & Physiology and/or Clinical Microbiology laboratories.

In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will also be responsible for coordinating introductory biology laboratories. Lab coordination duties primarily include, but are not limited to:
  • Determining the weekly laboratory schedule for each semester.
  • Ordering supplies and materials for the laboratories.
  • Setting up and tearing down laboratory preps for all instructors.

This position is also responsible for maintaining the department’s greenhouse and supervising student workers who will provide assistance in carrying out most non-teaching responsibilities, including those related to lab coordination. Official transcripts will be required of the successful candidate prior to the start date of the appointment, but unofficial copies will be accepted for the application process.
