The Office of Precollege Outreach and Engagement, partners with communities across Colorado and beyond to provide first-generation students and their families with comprehensive college preparation and social development programming.
Aquetza is designed to engage students in examining and exploring connections across the fields of history, literature, health, and environmental science. The program provides opportunities for students to develop academic skills, apply critical thinking, and understand how community assets and personal strengths can be used to give constructively to their schools and communities.
Responsibilities
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Facilitators spend the majority of each day facilitating discussion, activities, and critical thinking in collaboration with youth participants. Facilitators will develop all lessons and deliver them to student participants while centering their teaching practices in students’ lived experiences. Additionally, facilitators support students in the development of their final projects; the modules should allow students to develop the skills and knowledge to build a robust group project. All facilitators are expected to be live-in staff for the duration of the program.
Responsibilities Include
The hourly rate for this full-time, temporary position is $18.90 - $25.00.

Responsibilities Include
- Building and sustaining important relationships with students throughout the program. This requires trust, respect, and accountability.
- Facilitate daily classes that develop space for reflection, dialogue, and community building, while also maintaining responsibility for student safety and well-being.
- Have awareness of student interactions and support their respectful engagement and participation during lessons.
- Collaborate closely with fellow staff members to ensure a collaborative program experience, clear communication, and a supportive environment for all participants.
- Provide mentorship and guidance for students' final projects.
- Supervise group dynamics and support students' emotional and social well-being.
- Attend all staff meetings and communicate concerns with program Co-Directors.
- Model appropriate boundaries and expectations with all program youth.
- Address conflict with care and consideration.
- Follow all university youth safety processes, report any safety concerns with the Co-Directors immediately.
- Maintain active communication with co-counselors and rest of Aquetza staff.
- This position is on-site.
- The 2026 Aquetza Youth Leadership Program for 9th-11th graders will run June 19th to June 28th. Staff Training will be June 18th-19th. You must be available to work the entirety of the program week and staff training days.
- Facilitator staff positions are expected to work 20 hours over the 11-day program and attend daily staff meetings. Facilitators work shifts between the hours of 9am-2pm, to a total of 4 hours per day for 5 days, 20 hours total.
- Must pass a university background check if hired.

- One of year of work experience or education can substitute.
- Phenomenal teammate.

- Previous involvement in the Aquetza Youth Leadership Program, with at least one year experience as a counselor.
- Classroom or community instructional experience.
- Experience working with high school age students in a community setting.
- Experience in community organizations aligned with the vision and purpose of Aquetza.
- Previous experience working for Aquetza.
- Past program participant.
- Experience working with middle school and high school aged students.
- Experience working with first generation students.
- Experience facilitating activities.
