What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgery Scheduler position at UNITED MEDICAL DOCTORS?
- Schedule surgical procedures for podiatry patients in coordination with physicians, surgical facilities, and patients
- Verify patient demographics, insurance coverage, and obtain necessary authorizations for procedures
- Communicate pre-operative instructions, including fasting, medication adjustments, and arrival times
- Coordinate with hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, and anesthesia providers to secure operating room availability
- Ensure all required documentation (consents, labs, imaging, medical clearances) is completed prior to surgery
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date scheduling records in the electronic medical record (EMR) system
- Serve as a point of contact for patients regarding surgery-related questions and updates
- Follow up with patients regarding scheduling changes, cancellations, or rescheduling needs
- Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure continuity of care and timely communication
- Assist with post-operative scheduling, including follow-up appointments
- Adhere to HIPAA and confidentiality standards at all times
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical scheduling experience preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology, particularly related to podiatry procedures, preferred
- Experience with insurance verification and prior authorizations
- Proficiency with EMR systems and scheduling software
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
