What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant position at UNITED MEDICAL DOCTORS?
• Record patients' medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results in medical records
• Submit and track prior authorization requests for procedures, imaging, medications, and specialty services
• Communicate with insurance companies to obtain approvals and resolve authorization issues
• Notify patients and staff of authorization status, delays, or additional requirements
• Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height
• Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean
• Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing
• Operate electrocardiogram (EKG), or other equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests
• Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, or physicians' instructions to patients
• Perform general office duties, such as answering telephones, taking dictation, or completing insurance forms
• Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies
• Maintain inventory of test kits and order supplies for kits when necessary
• Help physicians examine and treat patients, handing them instruments or materials or performing such tasks as giving injections or removing sutures
• Secure patient information and maintain patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; keeping patient information confidential
• Greet and check-in patients arriving at office or clinic
• Perform other duties as assigned
• High school diploma/ GED; Associates degree in Medical Assisting preferred
• Minimum two years of experience working in an ambulatory clinic/medical office setting preferred
• Possess an ability to function in a high stress, physically demanding setting
• Knowledge of health care regulations and preventative measures (HIPAA confidentiality, infection spread, etc.)
• Exemplary customer service experience including client relationships and job knowledge
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to exercise manual dexterity, control precision and arm-hand steadiness accurately
• Ability to be empathetic with patients; ability to maintain confidentiality
