Location: McLean, VA

Compensation: $85,000–$115,000 Base Discretionary Bonus Potential (3–5%)

Schedule: Onsite for the first 90 days, followed by a hybrid schedule (3 days onsite / 2 days remote)

About the Opportunity

We are partnering with an established, privately held commercial real estate organization in the Northern Virginia area seeking an experienced Senior Property Accountant to join its growing accounting team.

This opportunity is ideal for an accounting professional with a strong foundation in commercial real estate and property-level accounting who enjoys taking ownership of an assigned portfolio, preparing financial statements, and working closely with accounting leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage general ledger accounting activities for an assigned portfolio of commercial real estate properties.
• Support monthly and quarterly close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Prepare and post journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and year-to-date financial statements, including variance analysis.
• Develop monthly financial reporting packages for property owners and lender compliance.
• Maintain balance sheet schedules related to capital improvements, straight-line rent, depreciation, and other property-level accounts.
• Monitor property-level cash flow and prepare monthly management fee billings.
• Prepare lender draw packages in accordance with financing requirements.
• Assist with annual property budgeting, financial analysis, and supporting schedules.
• Prepare year-end audit and tax packages and respond to related requests.
• Collaborate with Controllers and accounting leadership on special projects and process improvements.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Commercial real estate/property accounting experience required.
• Hands-on experience with Yardi, MRI, or Nexus required. Candidates coming directly from public accounting with relevant real estate audit experience may also be considered.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP, and related reporting functions.
• Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple competing deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with accounting leadership and other departments.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA designation or active CPA candidacy.
• Experience accounting for commercial retail, shopping center, or mixed-use real estate properties.
• Experience preparing owner reporting packages, lender draw requests, and property-level financial analysis.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base Salary: $85,000–$115,000, commensurate with experience.
• Bonus: Eligible for discretionary performance-based bonuses of approximately 3–5%, subject to individual and company performance.
• Hybrid Flexibility: Initial 90-day onsite training period, followed by eligibility to work remotely two days per week.
