Risk & Compliance Analyst – Audit & Controls, Financial Services
Location: New York City – Lower Manhattan / Financial District
Work arrangement: Hybrid – 3 days onsite / 2 days remote
Engagement type: Full-time consulting engagement
Duration: 6 months, with potential for extension
Position Overview
Turn2Partners is currently seeking a Risk & Compliance Analyst to support a global consulting firm’s financial services practice. Analysts will be placed on a large engagement with a major financial services organization in Lower Manhattan, supporting audit, risk and controls, and compliance work.
This is a hands on role where you’ll gather evidence, document processes, support control testing, track issues, and build the reporting that keeps the program on schedule. You’ll work alongside experienced consultants who will train you on the client’s methodology. Prior risk or audit experience helps, but it isn’t required if you have a strong financial services background and are detail-oriented.
It’s a strong fit for someone with 1–4 years in financial services who wants to build a career in risk, audit, or compliance at a large, highly regulated institution.
Backgrounds that fit
- Risk, audit, and compliance: internal audit, operational risk, controls testing, SOX, or compliance testing at a bank or financial institution
- Consulting and public accounting: analysts and associates from Big 4, risk advisory, or financial services consulting practices, including external audit associates with financial services clients
- Financial services operations and finance: fund accounting, private equity fund operations, loan operations, credit administration, middle and back office operations, or financial reporting at a bank, investment bank, private equity firm, lender, asset manager, or insurer
Key Responsibilities:
Audit & Controls Support
- Support SOX 404 / ICFR and internal audit testing, including walkthroughs, test of design (TOD), and test of operating effectiveness (TOE)
- Pull samples, manage PBC and evidence requests, and document results in audit-ready workpapers
- Document business processes, including narratives, process maps and flowcharts (Visio), and control descriptions
- Help maintain risk and control matrices (RCMs) and control libraries
- Flag exceptions, control deficiencies, and gaps to senior team members, and help draft findings
Risk & Controls
- Support risk and control assessments across business units, including inherent and residual risk ratings
- Support first-line (1LOD) control self-testing and second-line (2LOD) quality assurance reviews
- Maintain risk registers, key risk indicators (KRIs), and operational risk event and loss data
- Support third-party and vendor risk reviews
- Help document new or updated controls as part of remediation and control enhancement work
Compliance
- Support compliance monitoring and testing against internal policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Review and update policies and procedures, and log exceptions
- Support regulatory change management by tracking new requirements and mapping them to policies and controls
- Help prepare documentation for regulatory exams and audit readiness (e.g., OCC, Federal Reserve, SEC, FINRA)
Issue Management & Reporting
- Track audit findings, regulatory observations, MRAs, and issues in the issue management log, and follow up with owners on corrective action plans (CAPs)
- Support remediation validation and issue closure testing
- Build status reports, dashboards, and metrics in Excel (pivot tables, XLOOKUP) and PowerPoint
- Coordinate with business, operations, technology, and risk stakeholders to collect information and keep work on deadline
- Identify ways to improve documentation, process efficiency, and control design
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, economics, or a related field
- 1–4 years of professional experience in financial services, either inside a bank, investment bank, private equity firm, lender, asset manager, insurer, or payments company, or in the financial services practice of a consulting or accounting firm
- Strong Excel skills (lookups, pivot tables, working with large data sets), plus working knowledge of PowerPoint and Word
- Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to handle a high volume of documentation and testing support without losing quality
- Clear written and verbal communication
Strongly Preferred
- Exposure to internal audit, risk management, controls testing, SOX, or compliance work
- Basic understanding of internal controls and the three lines of defense
Preferred Qualifications
- Big 4, risk advisory, or financial services consulting experience
- Exposure to RCSA, operational risk, or enterprise risk management
- Issue management or remediation tracking experience
- Familiarity with SOX or COSO frameworks
- Exposure to GRC platforms (e.g., Archer, ServiceNow GRC, MetricStream)
- Progress toward a CPA, CIA, CISA, or CRMA
