Material Scientist I/II

We are seeking a Material Scientist I/II to support pharmaceutical drug product development through hands-on materials characterization, experimental studies, and laboratory operations. This is a fully onsite role within a technical, collaborative environment.

Approximately 70% of the role is experimental work and 30% involves laboratory management, documentation, record keeping, and audit support.

What You’ll Do

  • Execute hands-on experiments supporting pharmaceutical material and drug product development.
  • Work with various pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, including direct compression, roller compaction, high-shear granulation, and fluid-bed granulation.
  • Characterize bulk powders and materials, including bulk density, particle size, flowability, and imaging.
  • Support analytical characterization using spectroscopic techniques such as infrared, near-infrared, and Raman.
  • Set up and evaluate process parameters and support successful completion of experimental batches.
  • Troubleshoot material and process-related issues.
  • Perform maintenance and calibration of laboratory and manufacturing equipment.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, documentation, and compliance materials for audits.
  • Follow laboratory safety and quality requirements while working in a timeline-driven environment.
  • Frequently lift equipment weighing up to 25 lbs.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related scientific/engineering discipline.
  • Hands-on laboratory or experimental experience with materials characterization is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with bulk powder characterization, particle sizing, flowability, density, or imaging is highly desirable.
  • Experience with spectroscopy, particularly infrared techniques, is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a technical team environment and manage multiple priorities.

Experience Level

  • Scientist I: Early-career candidates with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and relevant academic or hands-on laboratory experience.
  • Scientist II: Candidates with stronger hands-on experience in materials characterization and pharmaceutical/chemical processes are preferred.

PhD candidates will not be considered.

This is a fully onsite position.
