Position Summary
The Control Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and support of industrial control and automation systems for large‑scale capital projects. This role supports the full project lifecycle—from conceptual design and front‑end engineering through detailed design, construction, commissioning, and startup—while ensuring systems meet project, client, and regulatory requirements. This person will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and interfaces closely with clients, vendors, and construction teams to deliver robust, safe, and reliable control solutions. This role is located in Houston, TX in the Energy Corridor area. Candidates MUST be located in the Greater Houston area due to the urgency of this role as relocation will not be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop control system architectures including DCS, PLC, SCADA, SIS, and networked control systems
- Prepare control philosophies, functional descriptions, cause & effect diagrams, and control narratives
- Design control system hardware including I/O, panels, marshalling, power distribution, and networks
- Develop and review instrumentation and control (I&C) drawings, loop diagrams, logic diagrams, and wiring details
- Support development of P&IDs, instrument indexes, and I/O lists
- Perform control system sizing, architecture selection, and redundancy analysis
- Develop and review PLC, DCS, and SCADA logic and configuration
- Support HMI graphics design and operator interface philosophy
- Coordinate FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SAT (Site Acceptance Testing
- Support system integration between control, safety, and auxiliary systems (e.g., packaged equipment)
- Support functional safety and process safety activities, including SIS and interlock design
- Participate in HAZOP, SIL determination, and risk assessment studies as require
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client specifications (ISA, IEC, IEEE, NFPA, etc.)
- Support construction, installation, commissioning, and startup activities
- Resolve technical issues during fabrication, installation, and field execution
- Interface directly with clients to clarify requirements and support technical reviews
- Support project schedules, cost estimates, and execution plans
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation, or related discipline
- Experience in industrial control systems within EPC, industrial, or process industries
- Working knowledge of PLC and DCS platforms (e.g., Emerson, Honeywell, Siemens, Rockwell, Yokogawa)
- Experience with control system documentation and engineering deliverables
- Strong understanding of industrial communication networks and protocols
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, project‑based environment in energy, chemicals, mining, life sciences, or advanced manufacturing
- Knowledge of functional safety systems and standards (IEC 61511 / 61508)
