Controller - Wheeling, IL
A manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee all accounting operations and ensure accurate, reliable financial reporting. Reporting to the CFO, this role focuses on improving operational efficiency, providing financial and performance reporting to senior leadership, and leading the accounting team. The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting skills, solid communication abilities, and extensive experience in high-volume manufacturing environments, including at least 10 years in management.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead manufacturing and operations analysis, including labor reporting, inventory management, and capital equipment tracking
Oversee daily accounting functions: general ledger, AP/AR, customer rebates, and fixed assets
Set financial and operational benchmarks, budgets, and reporting standards (biweekly, monthly, annual)
Develop and maintain internal controls, policies, and workflows
Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP
Support external financial reviews and tax filings
Ensure accurate, timely financial reporting and account reconciliations
Manage month-end and year-end close
Monitor compliance with financial policies and internal controls
Assist with forecasting and variance analysis
Partner with IT to improve accounting, operations, and sales systems
Supervise and mentor accounting managers, supervisors, and administrative staff
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business; CPA required
15 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 10 years in leadership
Strong GAAP knowledge
Extensive manufacturing experience
Experience with Tier 1 ERP systems (Oracle, SAP, etc.) and automation tools; strong Excel skills
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines
Effective communication and leadership skills
Salary: Estimated base salary starting at $150,000, depending on experience, education, and location.
