Bookkeeper - Construction

Position: Bookkeeper - Construction

Location: Saint Charles, IL (On-Site)

Salary: $55,000 - $60,000

Schedule: Monday - Friday - 8 am - 5 pm

Employment Type: Direct Hire

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate financial records for daily operations and ongoing projects
• Handle accounts payable and receivable, including vendor invoices, subcontractor payments, and client billing
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and loan accounts on a monthly basis
• Track project-related costs, including materials, labor, and other expenses, by job
• Support job costing efforts and monitor budget versus actual project performance
• Prepare invoices, payment applications, and follow up on collections
• Assist with payroll processing or coordinate payroll data, including labor hour tracking
• Contribute to the monthly and year-end closing processes
• Generate financial reports such as cash flow summaries, expense tracking, and project profitability
• Maintain organized vendor records, subcontractor documentation, W-9s, and insurance certificates
• Assist with purchase order tracking and scheduling vendor payments
• Collaborate with external CPAs or tax professionals during audits and tax preparation
• Ensure financial documents are well-organized in both digital and physical formats

Required Qualifications

• 3 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably within construction, trades, or manufacturing environments
• Strong proficiency in QuickBooks
• Advanced Excel skills, including formulas, reconciliations, and reporting
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with field teams, vendors, and leadership

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with job costing in carpentry, millwork, or subcontracting environments
• Familiarity with labor tracking, material costing, and project-based billing
• Exposure to ERP/MRP systems such as NetSuite, Sage 100 Contractor, or similar
• Understanding of inventory-related financial tracking for materials and shop operations
• Experience in improving or streamlining accounting processes
