Job Title: Senior Oracle DBA
Location: Oakland, CA (Hybrid – Onsite 2–3 Days per Week)
Duration: 6 Months (With High possibility of extension)
Job Description:
Trilyon is seeking an experienced Senior Oracle DBA to support enterprise database administration and cloud platform initiatives across Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, AWS, and Azure environments. The Senior Oracle DBA will lead database administration activities including installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, migrations, performance optimization, backup and recovery, automation, and disaster recovery planning.
The ideal Senior Oracle DBA will possess extensive experience supporting mission-critical enterprise databases across on-premises and cloud environments. This role requires strong expertise in Oracle RAC, Data Guard, AWS RDS, PostgreSQL replication, SQL Server administration, and enterprise database security practices.
The Senior Oracle DBA will work closely with application teams, DevOps engineers, cloud architects, and infrastructure teams to design scalable, cloud-ready, and highly available database solutions. Candidates should also have strong experience supporting production incidents, conducting root cause analysis, and maintaining 24x7 critical database operations.
The Senior Oracle DBA will be responsible for cloud migration initiatives, database modernization programs, automation efforts, and implementation of high-availability and disaster recovery solutions. Strong scripting and automation experience using Python, Shell scripting, PowerShell, or PL/SQL is highly preferred.
The Senior Oracle DBA should also possess expertise in database monitoring, capacity planning, performance tuning, backup and recovery strategies, and security compliance across Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, AWS, and Azure database platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and migrations across Oracle, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server environments
- Design and implement backup and recovery strategies using RMAN, pgBackRest, AWS Backup, and native SQL Server tools
- Conduct database monitoring, performance tuning, capacity planning, and optimization activities
- Diagnose and resolve complex database performance issues involving SQL tuning, indexing, execution plans, and storage optimization
- Manage AWS RDS instances including Oracle, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server deployments
- Support AWS Aurora PostgreSQL and SQL Server administration activities
- Implement automation solutions using CloudWatch, Lambda, Systems Manager, IAM, KMS, Terraform, and CloudFormation
- Support cloud migrations, schema conversion, data migration, and cutover planning
- Implement database security standards including encryption, auditing, patching, access control, and vulnerability remediation
- Architect and maintain HA/DR solutions including Oracle RAC, Data Guard, Always On Availability Groups, PostgreSQL replication, and AWS Multi-AZ environments
- Automate repetitive DBA tasks using Python, Shell scripting, PowerShell, and PL/SQL
- Provide advanced troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and production support for enterprise database environments
- Collaborate with engineering, DevOps, infrastructure, and application teams on scalable cloud-ready data solutions
- Lead database modernization, cloud transformation, and cross-platform upgrade initiatives
- Mentor junior DBAs and maintain database operational documentation and standards
Required Skills & Experience:
- 10 years of experience in Oracle Database Administration
- Strong experience with PostgreSQL and SQL Server administration (working knowledge)
- Extensive experience with AWS and Azure database environments
- Strong expertise in Oracle RAC, Data Guard, and enterprise HA/DR solutions
- Experience supporting AWS RDS and AWS Aurora database platforms
- Hands-on experience with backup and recovery tools including RMAN and pgBackRest
- Strong performance tuning and optimization experience for OLTP and OLAP workloads
- Experience with cloud migrations, schema conversion, and database modernization programs
- Strong scripting and automation experience using Python, Shell scripting, PowerShell, or PL/SQL
- Experience with monitoring tools including AWR, OEM, pg_stat views, DMVs, and cloud-native monitoring platforms
- Strong understanding of database security, auditing, encryption, and compliance practices
- Experience supporting enterprise production environments and 24x7 on-call support rotations
Preferred Skills:
- Prior experience supporting CC&B database environments
- Previous utility industry or enterprise infrastructure experience preferred
- Experience with Terraform and CloudFormation automation frameworks
- Experience collaborating with DevOps and cloud engineering teams
- Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills
