The Axel Group is seeking a Project Manager / Senior Project Manager to lead the execution of a major ground-up hospital project. This individual will be responsible for overseeing all phases of construction, from preconstruction through closeout, with a strong focus on budgeting, scheduling, and client relationship management.
This role requires deep experience in healthcare construction, including an understanding of regulatory requirements, coordination of complex MEP systems, and working within active or adjacent healthcare environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Leadership
- Lead all aspects of project execution for a $100M ground-up hospital project
- Manage project team including Project Engineers, Superintendents, and subcontractors
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the client, design team, and key stakeholders
- Budgeting & Financial Management
- Develop, manage, and track project budgets and forecasts
- Oversee cost control, change management, and financial reporting
- Ensure accurate projections and profitability throughout the project lifecycle
- Scheduling & Planning
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules (Primavera P6 or similar preferred)
- Identify critical path activities and proactively mitigate delays
- Coordinate with field teams to ensure alignment between schedule and execution
- Client & Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with healthcare clients, architects, and consultants
- Lead project meetings and provide clear, consistent communication
- Manage expectations in high-stakes, operationally sensitive environments
- Preconstruction & Procurement
- Participate in preconstruction efforts including estimating, value engineering, and constructability reviews
- Oversee subcontractor procurement, buyout, and contract negotiations
- Quality & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with healthcare-specific regulations (e.g., infection control, life safety systems)
- Oversee quality control processes to meet stringent healthcare standards
- Risk Management
- Identify and mitigate project risks, including logistical challenges and regulatory hurdles
- Manage change orders, claims, and issue resolution
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
- Project Manager: 5–10 years of experience
- Senior Project Manager: 10–15 years of experience
- Proven experience managing $50M–$100M ground-up healthcare projects
- Strong knowledge of healthcare construction standards and codes
- Experience with complex MEP systems and coordination
- Proficiency in scheduling software (Primavera P6 preferred) and project management tools (Procore, etc.)
- Strong financial acumen and experience managing large project budgets
- Excellent leadership, communication, and client-facing skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with major hospital systems or academic medical centers
- Familiarity with Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI) guidelines
- OSHA 30 certification (OSHA 40 / HAZWOPER a plus depending on project scope)
- LEED accreditation or experience with sustainable healthcare construction
Salary : $150,000 - $200,000
