Structural Analyst

Structural Analyst evaluates and ensures the strength and reliability of tooling and ground support equipment for manufacturing and assembly. The role combines classical analysis and finite element modeling to support design decisions, mentor colleagues, and guide vendor projects. This position drives safe, cost-effective production of structural components in a high‑performance environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform strength assessments using classical analysis and finite element analysis for tooling and ground support equipment.
• Document and review stress analyses to facilitate the release of engineering drawings and related documentation.
• Mentor tooling designers on best practices in stress, stability, and fracture analysis.
• Provide technical guidance on design concepts, including risk, cost, and performance trade‑offs.
• Support cross‑functional teams with input for design development, analysis, and trade studies.
• Lead conceptual and detailed analysis of tooling and equipment for the manufacture and assembly of structural components, mechanical/actuated systems, and hydraulic and fluid systems.
• Serve as the technical point of contact and responsible party for vendor‑developed tooling projects.
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (minimum), with at least 8 years of experience analyzing ground support equipment (GSE) or tooling in the automotive, aerospace or similar industry.
• Experience creating and validating finite element models (FEMs) using Ansys or NX Simulation with Nastran.
• Proven experience of FEA using 1D, 2D & 3D elements with models containing weldments, machined parts, and weldments.
• Proficiency in generating free-body diagrams to calculate internal loads and reaction forces, and in simplifying and idealizing structural problems of varying complexity.
• Extensive experience analyzing steel and aluminum tooling, including machining fixtures and weldments using hand calculations.
• Proficiency in performing bolted joint hand calculations (bolt preload, joint stiffness, shear‑tension interaction, insert pull‑out, etc.).
• Proficiency in performing welded joint hand calculations (required size, length, effective throat, direct and resultant stress, and failure modes).
• Demonstrated ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
• Familiarity with applicable structural codes (AISC-360, ASME B30 & 31, ASME BTH-1, etc.).
  
  

Preferred Skills

• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
• Proficiency with Creo and/or Siemens NX software.
• Strong customer focus and excellent communication skills.
• Demonstrated track record of successful project delivery.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Self‑motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
• Ability to clearly communicate analytical findings to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
