Overview
We are seeking a Leave of Absence Specialist to manage high-volume, complex leave and accommodation cases. This role requires hands-on experience with FMLA, ADA, and the interactive process, along with the ability to balance compliance, employee support, and business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end leave and accommodation cases (FMLA, ADA, state leaves)
- Lead the interactive process and evaluate workplace accommodations vs. leave
- Partner with HR, leadership, and a third-party administrator to ensure alignment
- Interpret leave policies, including state laws and union CBAs
- Handle a high-volume caseload, including complex and escalated cases
- Communicate policies and processes clearly and empathetically
- Audit and reconcile leave data across systems; report on trends and discrepancies
- Utilize HRIS, vendor platforms, and Excel (pivot tables) for tracking and reporting
- 3–5 years of leave administration experience with strong case management
- Solid knowledge of FMLA, ADA, and state leave laws
- Experience managing the interactive process and accommodations
- Background in high-volume, fast-paced environments
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Experience with third-party leave administrators and HR systems
- Empathetic, patient, and a strong listener
- Detail-oriented and highly organized
- Team player with a proactive, “jump in” mindset
- HRIS (Oracle preferred), third-party leave systems
- Advanced Excel for reporting and auditing
