Scope of Position
The Waterpark Lead Technician plays a key role in maintaining the world-class standards of Tidal Cove Waterpark. This position oversees the daily operation, maintenance, and safety of all aquatic systems, attractions, and equipment to ensure an exceptional guest experience in a safe and pristine environment. The Lead Technician also provides technical guidance, mentorship, and supervision to the waterpark maintenance team while collaborating closely with Recreation, Engineering, and Safety departments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the daily maintenance and operational checks of all waterpark attractions, including slides, wave pool, FlowRider, lazy river, and interactive water features.
- Conduct and document daily water chemistry testing to meet or exceed Florida Department of Health and resort standards.
- Supervise and train the waterpark maintenance team on safe operations, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Inspect and maintain pumps, filters, valves, chlorinators, and chemical automation systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Collaborate with the Recreation and Engineering leadership teams to plan maintenance schedules with minimal guest disruption.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and water chemistry logs in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Respond quickly to equipment failures, water quality issues, or guest-impacting incidents.
- Support capital improvement projects, budgeting, and long-term maintenance planning for all aquatic assets
- Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, and excellence consistent with the Tidal Cove and JW Marriott Turnberry brand values.
Required Certifications & Qualifications:
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) – Required
- Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) – Preferred
- CPR and First Aid Certification – Preferred
- EPA 608 Universal Refrigerant Certification – Preferred (for those handling HVAC or chiller systems) NOT NEEDED
- Electrical or Mechanical Technician Certification – Preferred
- Water Chemistry Training Certification – Preferred
- Minimum 3–5 years of aquatic facility or waterpark maintenance experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or lead role
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong technical understanding of water filtration, hydraulic systems, and automated chemical controllers - REQUIRED
- Proven ability to lead and develop a team in a fast-paced, guest-focused environment
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of OSHA standards and local/state aquatic health regulations
- Effective communication, documentation, and organizational skills
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and around moving water
- Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and respond to after-hours emergencies
