Job Title: Teen Leadership Supervisor: Teen Leadership Institute

Salary & Dates: $4,700. Dates for this position are May 21-June 7 (supervisor training) and July 1-August 3 (staff training, prep program).

Job Description: TLI Staff will lead an incredible adventure for 42-48 teens from the Bay Area to Portland, Oregon, and all the way back to Camp Tawonga. TLI staff are responsible for their teens' physical and emotional needs on the trip, all while guiding them through Tawonga leadership programming and outfitter led programming. In addition to many of the responsibilities of TLI Staff, the TLI Supervisor also manages the responsibilities included below. This position reports to the TLI Trip Director and/or the Assistant Director of Teen Programs and is responsible for directly supervising 3-5 TLI Staff.   

Job Responsibilities:

• Supervise TLI Program

  • Coordinate TLI program schedule, service projects and community building activities

  • Plan, oversee and coordinate TLI trainings

  • Plan and implement TLI travel, including working with outfitters, lodging, food

    • Make calls in the weeks and days preceding all use of vendors to confirm logistics and programming.

  • Work with TLI staff to track and support physical and emotional well being of all campers

  • Oversee ongoing assessment of program quality 

  • Hold TLI risk management on the road

• Supervise TLI Staff

  • Observe and evaluate TLI Staff

  • Support TLI Staff professional development 

  • Coordinate TLI Staff roles, schedules and responsibilities during TLI programs

  • Oversee TLI time/day off and night time supervision schedule

• Certifications

  • Must be Tawonga Driver Certified (attend driver training on May 31st) and be 21 with clean driver record and comfort driving SUVs

  • Wilderness First Responder and Lifeguard Certification strongly preferred (Tawonga reimburses substantial part of the cost of these certifications). ServeSafe Required.

• Attend daily 5:00PM meetings when in Camp (during the final week of the program)

On the road:

• Participate in service projects which include but are not limited to: construction, landscaping and  gardening.

• Help carry bags, supplies and materials which may weigh up to 50 lbs.

• Participate in outdoor activities including White Water Rafting, Mountain Biking and Rock Climbing

• Sit in a bus for up to 6 hours

• Be able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations

• Work in outdoor weather conditions including very hot temperatures

At camp:

• Almost all positions at Tawonga include long, active days where it is normal to walk 4-8 miles between staff housing, communally shared meals and various locations where work responsibilities occur.
