What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountant position at Talently?
Job Title: Senior Accountant, Construction / Project Accounting
Location: Sandy, UT
Salary: $55,000 - $101,000
Skills: Staff Accountant, Payroll Processing, Job Cost Accounting, GAAP, ERP Systems, Construction Accounting, Project Accounting
About the Opportunity:
This is a roll-up-your-sleeves accounting role, not a corner office strategy position.
You'll be the numbers person a growing construction and contracting company actually relies on, keeping daily operations running clean and tight. Hands-on accounts payable is a core part of this job, and so is payroll processing, review, and compliance across federal, state, and local regulations. If those two things make you cringe, this one isn't for you. If they're just Tuesday, keep reading.
The Controller needs a Senior Accountant who doesn't wait to be told what's broken. Someone who spots the gap, fixes it, and documents it so it never breaks the same way twice. If you've worked in construction, electrical, mechanical, or any project-based environment where the financials move as fast as the field does, you already know what this job demands.
Good runway here for someone who wants to grow with a company rather than just maintain the status quo.
Responsibilities:
- Own daily accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations
- Drive month-end and year-end close: journal entries, reconciliations, and account analysis

- Assist with payroll processing, review, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Prepare financial statements and management reports for Controller review
- Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Strengthen internal controls and accounting policies as the business scales
- Support audits, tax filings, and external reporting as needed
- Spot process gaps and lead improvements, including system enhancements

- 2 years of progressive accounting experience with hands-on accounts payable as part of daily operations
- Payroll processing, review, and compliance experience across federal, state, and local regulations
- Construction, project-based, or job cost accounting background strongly preferred
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and proficiency in Excel and at least one accounting or ERP platform
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- CPA or actively pursuing it
- Experience in electrical, mechanical, HVAC, or trades contracting environments
- Comfort working in a growth or turnaround environment where things are still being built
