Responsibilities:
- Supervise and manage the daily operations of the medical billing team, ensuring accurate and timely processing of ambulance service claims.
- Review and process claims for both emergency and non-emergency ambulance transports, ensuring proper coding and regulatory compliance.
- Resolve denied claims, billing disputes, and payment discrepancies by liaising with insurance companies and other payers.
- Lead the identification and resolution of complex billing issues, including coding errors and unpaid or underpaid claims.
- Monitor and manage accounts receivable, ensuring prompt collection of payments and resolution of outstanding issues.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry standards relevant to emergency medical services billing.
- Train and mentor the billing team in the unique aspects of ambulance billing and coding, including transport levels and modifiers.
- Generate and analyze operational reports to track departmental performance and identify areas for continuous improvement.
- Maintain current knowledge of ambulance billing regulations and evolving industry standards.
Must-Have Skills:
- Requires a minimum of 3 years ambulance billing experience and 5 years of supervisory experience.
- In-depth knowledge of ambulance coding (HCPCS, ICD-10) and medical billing procedures.
- Proven supervisory experience in a medical billing or revenue cycle setting.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail for accurate claim processing and issue resolution.
- Thorough understanding of insurance billing requirements and HIPAA regulations.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with payers, patients, and team members.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Medical Billing, or a related field.
- Experience specifically in ambulance transportation billing.
- Familiarity with industry-standard billing software and reporting tools.
- Knowledge of managed care organizations and their billing practices.
- Experience providing team training and process improvement initiatives.
