A premier management-side employment and commercial law firm in Chicago, IL is seeking a Commercial Litigator to join its litigation team. This is an excellent opportunity for a business-minded attorney with a strong motion practice background and meaningful exposure to employment or workplace-adjacent disputes who is ready to hit the ground running with sophisticated business clients.
Responsibilities
- Independently manage pleadings and written discovery across a diverse caseload of commercial and business disputes
- Draft, argue, and win dispositive and important motions including motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgment, and preliminary injunction proceedings
- Handle employment and business disputes — including non-compete and non-solicitation enforcement, trade secret litigation, breach of contract, and business tort claims — without a significant learning curve
- Communicate directly and proactively with sophisticated business clients, providing clear strategic guidance throughout the litigation lifecycle
- Appear in Cook County Circuit Court and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois for hearings, discovery disputes, and case management conferences
- Handle arbitration and ADR proceedings before AAA, JAMS, and other panels
Qualifications
- Active Illinois law license in good standing
- Minimum 5 years of meaningful commercial litigation and business dispute experience
- Demonstrated exposure to employment litigation or workplace-adjacent disputes — including non-compete, trade secret, or business tort matters
- Strong written motion practice with the ability to draft and argue dispositive motions independently
- Sufficient court exposure to handle hearings, discovery disputes, and case management with limited supervision
- Trial and/or ADR experience sufficient to credibly own files from inception through resolution
- Federal admission to the Northern District of Illinois strongly preferred
