The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) provides a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public while promoting economic development and preserving New Mexico's environment. The Accounting Services Bureau is responsible for collecting all departmental revenues, ensuring all financial transactions are correct, accounting for all of the agency¿s assets and completion of the annual financial statements and financial audit in compliance with all oversight authorities.
As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrate leave upon your start date.
This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government.
Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two (2) weeks of the closing date.
Why does the job exist?
This position is the supervisor for the General Ledger team (GL) within the Accounting Services Bureau. Position will supervise two positions, Accountant and Auditor, Advanced and an Accountant and Auditor, Operational, both of which also have critical roles in making sure all the department's transactions are properly recorded. This team analyzes the general ledger transactions by fund and account to ensure appropriateness and completeness and transactions are in accordance with New Mexico Department of Transportation's Administrative Directives, New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration Models of Accounting Practices (MAPs), NM State laws and Federal Regulations and other applicable guidance. Position is proactive in performing an in-depth review of data using critical thinking skills in combination with advanced excel functions, develop solutions to complicated accounting problems and actively participate in preparing the department's financial statements and external financial audit.
How does it get done?
Position uses advanced Microsoft Excel and excellent customer service skills to create analyses of various transaction types. Ensures the accurate and timely completion of accounting activities relating to maintaining an accurate general ledger and other subsidiary accounts. Creates and reviews journal entries and journal vouchers to correct transactions. Provides guidance, training, and research to other departmental employees about how to resolve complicated accounting transactions. Assists the Accounting Services Bureau in year-end journal entries, processes, reconciliations and schedules.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Auditing, or Business Administration and three (3) years directly related work experience in accounting, auditing, budgeting, preparing Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports, and conducting financial audits. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling seven (7) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Business Reference check and Driver's License verification are required and employment is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
