The Outdoor Recreation Division (ORD), housed within the New Mexico Economic Development Department, works to help communities turn outdoor assets into economic opportunity and improved quality of life. Through statewide grant programs, partnerships, and policy initiatives, the division invests in trails and outdoor infrastructure, youth access to nature, and the growth of outdoor recreation businesses. Since 2020, ORD has administered tens of millions of dollars in public investments supporting communities across New Mexico as they use outdoor recreation to strengthen local economies and expand access to the outdoors. As the division's work continues to grow, it requires strong coordination, thoughtful systems, and a collaborative team committed to delivering effective public programs that connect more New Mexicans to the outdoors while supporting a thriving outdoor recreation economy.

Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.
Why does the job exist?

As investments in outdoor recreation continue to grow in New Mexico, the Outdoor Recreation Division manages an expanding portfolio of grant programs, infrastructure funding, and partnerships that support trails, youth outdoor programs, and outdoor recreation businesses across the state.
With millions of dollars in public funds administered each year, the division requires strong operational systems to ensure accountability, compliance, and effective program delivery.
This position exists to strengthen internal operations, improve coordination and reporting, and help ensure public investments are managed efficiently and responsibly while supporting the division's mission to expand outdoor access and strengthen local economies.
How does it get done?

Working closely with program staff, the position helps monitor timelines, prepare required materials, and ensure administrative processes align with state requirements and program guidelines. The position also helps strengthen the division's operational systems and reporting capacity. It serves as the primary resource for workflow platforms such as Monday.com and Submittable (the grant management software), helping maintain project tracking systems, improve data organization and developing dashboards that support program oversight and decision-making. By coordinating information across staff, vendors, and partner agencies, the role supports leadership in monitoring program implementation and identifying process improvements that enhance efficiency, accountability, and the responsible stewardship of public funds.
