Staffmax Healthcare is seeking an experienced PICU Registered Nurse (RN) for a pediatric critical care travel assignment in Kalispell, MT. This role is ideal for a nurse with strong PICU, pediatric MedSurg, neuro, respiratory, trauma, and complex pediatric care experience.

Compensation Highlights
- $2,376.60 Weekly Gross
- $1,428 Weekly Tax-Free Stipends
- $26.35/hr Taxable Rate
- $66.02/hr Blended Rate

Schedule
- Night Shift | 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- 12-hour shifts
- Contract Length: 13 Weeks
- No call
- Self-scheduling in 6-week blocks
- 5 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule
- Holiday group assignment may include 1 summer and 1 winter holiday
What You’ll Do
- Provide nursing care in both PICU and pediatric MedSurg
- Manage pediatric respiratory needs including high flow, CPAP, BiPAP, vents, trachs, suctioning, RSV, asthma, flu, and COVID
- Care for complex medical and surgical pediatric patients
- Support neuro patients with EVDs, shunts, bolts, craniotomies, Chiari malformation, epilepsy, seizures, and 24-hour EEGs
- Manage pediatric trauma patients including falls, MVAs, drownings, and ski-related injuries
- Perform IV starts, foley placement, dressing changes, wound vacs, tube feeds, G/GJ tube care, chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, and critical drip management
- Float to lower-acuity pediatric-related areas as needed
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years PICU experience – Required
- If traveler started directly in PICU after school, minimum 3 years PICU experience required
- Prior travel experience required
- Experience with both PICU and pediatric MedSurg patients
- Experience caring for high-acuity pediatric neuro and respiratory patients
- Must be comfortable working independently if PICU census is low
Requirements
- Active RN License – Required
- BLS Certification – Required
- PALS Certification – Required
- Strong pediatric assessment and critical thinking skills
- Must be comfortable with floating based on unit needs
Patient Population
- PICU and pediatric MedSurg patients
- Respiratory: high flow, CPAP, BiPAP, vents, trachs, RSV, asthma, COVID, flu
- Medical: MIS-C, new-onset diabetes with insulin drips, oncology, chronically ill pediatric patients
- Surgical: appendectomies, G-tubes, ENT, bowel obstruction, broken bones
- Trauma and neuro patients
- Medically managed congenital cardiac defects and abnormal rhythms
Patient Ratios
- PICU: 1:1–2
- Pediatric MedSurg: 1:3–4
Float Requirements
May float to:
- NICU
- Postpartum for lower-acuity stable couplets
- No laboring mothers
- Additional orientation may be provided if floating to these areas
