Executive Overview
We are seeking a high-potential legal leader ready to step into a General Counsel role with a
growing residential homebuilding organization. This position is ideal for a strong #2—currently serving as a Deputy General Counsel, Associate General Counsel, or senior in-house attorney—who is prepared to take on full leadership of the legal function. This role offers the opportunity to partner directly with executive leadership, influence strategy, and build a best-in-class legal and risk management platform. The successful candidate will combine strong legal expertise with practical business judgment and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, operationally driven environment.

Key Responsibilities
• Serve as the primary legal advisor to executive leadership, providing practical, business-oriented counsel
• Support and gradually assume full ownership of legal strategy, risk management, and compliance functions
• Provide legal oversight for land acquisition, development agreements, and real estate transactions
• Advise on construction, warranty, and operational risk matters
• Manage litigation, claims, and outside counsel relationships
• Oversee contracts, vendor agreements, and commercial transactions
• Partner with leadership on mergers, acquisitions, and strategic initiatives
• Establish scalable processes and frameworks for legal review and risk management
Core Competencies & Leadership Expectations
• Strategic legal advisor balancing risk and business objectives
• Exposure to insurance programs, claims management, and enterprise risk frameworks
• Experience supporting or managing litigation and outside counsel
• Ability to navigate sensitive issues and coordinate with PR partners

• Familiarity with residential construction defect and warranty risk
Experience & Background
• Juris Doctor (JD) and active bar membership
• 8–15 years of legal experience in homebuilding, real estate, construction, or related industries
• Current or recent role as #2 legal leader or senior in-house counsel
• Experience supporting real estate transactions and/or litigation management
• Demonstrated ability to operate in a fast-paced, growth-oriented organization
