Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Sushi Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Japanese cuisine, exceptional knife skills, and experience preparing high-quality sushi. This role involves creating authentic sushi dishes, maintaining food safety standards, and delivering an exceptional dining experience for our guests. The Sushi Chef will work in a fast-paced, casual environment dedicated to culinary excellence and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and assemble a variety of sushi and sashimi dishes with precision and artistry, ensuring presentation aligns with restaurant standards
- Maintain high standards of food safety, sanitation, and cleanliness in all aspects of food handling and preparation
- Develop and refine sushi menu offerings, incorporating fresh ingredients and innovative techniques
- Manage ingredient inventory, ensuring freshness and proper storage of seafood and other supplies
- Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure timely service during busy hours
- Uphold restaurant policies regarding food quality, portion control, and consistency
- Assist in training junior kitchen staff on sushi preparation techniques and safety protocols
- Ensure compliance with health regulations and safety standards at all times
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Sushi Chef or in a similar role within Japanese cuisine setting
- Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and food safety regulations
- Exceptional knife skills and proficiency in sushi rolling, slicing, and presentation
- Experience with menu planning and ingredient sourcing for sushi dishes
- Background in dietary department or dietary aide experience is a plus
- Familiarity with food industry standards including catering, serving, and food handling practices
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work efficiently under pressure
- Prior restaurant experience in a fast-paced environment preferred
- Culinary experience emphasizing Japanese cuisine or sushi is highly desirable
