Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential support to individuals with developmental disabilities and other needs, helping them achieve their personal goals and enhance their quality of life. Your responsibilities will include assisting with daily living activities, ensuring safety, and promoting independence in a supportive environment.
Duties
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
- Provide patient care and support in various settings including group homes, assisted living facilities, and home care environments.
- Monitor clients’ vital signs and overall health status, reporting any changes to the appropriate healthcare professionals.
- Implement care plans tailored to individual needs while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Engage clients in meaningful activities that promote social interaction and skill development.
- Assist with medication administration as directed by healthcare professionals.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients through regular cleaning and organization of living spaces.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to enhance the well-being of clients.
- Utilize equipment such as Hoyer lifts safely when assisting clients with mobility challenges.
- Document client progress and any incidents accurately in accordance with company policies.
Requirements
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or in similar caregiving roles is preferred.
- Knowledge of first aid and CPR is essential; certification is a plus.
- Familiarity with Alzheimer’s care, memory care, dementia care, or hospice care is highly desirable.
- Ability to perform patient observation and monitor behavioral changes effectively.
- Strong communication skills to interact positively with clients, families, and team members.
- Physical capability to perform heavy lifting when necessary and assist clients with mobility challenges.
- A background in nursing or social work is beneficial but not mandatory.
