CDL-A Driver (Tractor Trailer)

Summary: Drives truck with a capacity of more than 25 tons, to transport materials to and from specified destinations, by performing the following duties.

Salary Range: $25.00-$33.00/hr

Most employees start between $25.00 and $29.00.  The higher end of the range, $33.00, is reserved for candidates with exceptional experience or qualifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Actively participate in Seaport Steel's safety program.
• Check boards for loads
• Inspect truck
• Inspect material ensuring it matches shipping paperwork
• Decide if the load is road ready
• Adjust load for safety and availability
• Secure load
• Deliver and pick up material based on the routing

• Uses time efficiently.

• Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; Looks for ways to improve and promote quality.

• Completes work in a timely manner.

Qualifications

  Education/Experience

• CDL Class A driver's license and completed truck driving courses with a certificate of completion with at least six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

   

  Language Ability

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

  Math Ability

• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as adding up shipping orders to ensure the load is at the legal weight. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

  Reasoning Ability

• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  Computer Skills

• To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Eroad software or the wiliness to learn.
