Job Title: Staff Accountant I
Location: Urbandale, IA (Hybrid)
Duration: Contract through December 31, 2026 (Contract-to-Hire Potential)
Pay Rate: $24 - $25/hour
Start Date: Flexible
Work Schedule:
Flexible start time as early as 7:00 AM
Onsite 3 days/week for the first 4 weeks, then 1–2 days/week thereafter
Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant I to join a collaborative accounting team. This is an entry-level professional role ideal for someone with a strong foundation in accounting practices and a willingness to learn and grow. The position offers exposure to a variety of accounting functions within a dynamic and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support general accounting functions including Accounts Receivable and cash applications
- Prepare journal entries, billing, payments, and accounting reports
- Maintain and analyze general ledger accounts
- Assist with monthly and quarterly close processes
- Perform variance and trend analysis on financial data
- Reconcile commissions and revenue transactions
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies including overpayments and underpayments
- Communicate with external stakeholders including clients and insurance carriers via email
- Process refunds and apply funds to accounts
- Contribute to process improvements and system implementations (including cash application systems)
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and applicable accounting standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred (or up to 4 years of relevant experience)
- 2–4 years of accounting experience
- Familiarity with Accounts Receivable and cash application processes
- Experience with accounting systems such as Oracle is preferred
