Job Title: Staff Accountant I
Location: Urbandale, IA (Meredith)
Duration: Contract through December 31, 2026
Work Schedule: Hybrid – onsite 3 days per week for the first 4 weeks, then 1–2 days per week thereafter
Overview
We are seeking a Staff Accountant I to join our General Accounting team. This is an entry-level, individual contributor role working under close supervision, providing accounting support across various functions within Controllership. The ideal candidate will have foundational accounting knowledge, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide accounting support across areas such as Accounts Receivable, cash reconciliation, Cash Control, Fiduciary, and General Ledger
- Prepare journal entries, payments, billing, and administrative accounting reports
- Maintain and analyze general ledger accounts and client/insured records
- Assist with month-end and quarter-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Perform variance and trend analysis against forecast, budget, and prior year
- Coordinate revenue and expense accruals
- Apply funds and process refunds to insured/client records
- Request and process payments for carriers and third parties
- Prepare and analyze accounting reports and consolidated statements
- Present findings to internal stakeholders, including senior management or partners, as needed
- Support the development, implementation, and documentation of accounting policies, procedures, and process improvements
- Verify work and provide guidance to less experienced team members or offshore staff
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies, SOX, SSAE16, GAAP, tax regulations, and other applicable financial standards
- Participate in additional accounting-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- Familiarity with general ledger accounting and financial reporting
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Effective communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
