Assistant Project Manager (Construction)
Location: East Lyme, CT
Salary: $55-65K per year with benefits
Reports To: Project Manager

Travel: Project-based site visits as required
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Assistant Project Manager (APM) to support the successful delivery of construction projects from pre-construction through closeout. This role is responsible for coordinating project documentation, tracking budgets and schedules, supporting subcontractor activities, and ensuring projects meet quality, safety, and customer satisfaction standards.
The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, knowledge of construction processes, and the ability to collaborate effectively with project teams, subcontractors, and clients in a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Construction
• Support project planning and pre-construction activities under the direction of the Project Manager
• Review project estimates, drawings, and contract documents
• Assist with procurement of materials, equipment, and subcontractors
• Coordinate distribution of project documentation and plans
• Obtain permits as directed
• Organize and track project submittals and documentation
• Assist in establishing project budgets and cost tracking systems
• Set up and maintain project files and documentation systems
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with project stakeholders
• Identify and communicate potential project risks or deficiencies
Construction Phase
• Monitor project budgets, schedules, and cost tracking
• Update project documentation and manage change orders
• Track equipment delivery schedules and project milestones
• Attend subcontractor and coordination meetings
• Prepare and track Requests for Information (RFIs)
• Support quality control inspections and compliance activities
• Assist with safety monitoring and reporting
• Prepare project billing documentation and follow up on payments
• Maintain logs for submittals, change orders, and project updates
• Support communication between field and office teams
Project Closeout
• Assist with final project documentation and closeout activities
• Coordinate punch list completion and final inspections
• Support preparation of final pay applications and lien waivers
• Assist with commissioning, startup, and owner training coordination
• Compile and distribute operation and maintenance manuals
• Maintain project records and support document archiving
• Prepare warranty documentation and subcontractor contact lists
Required Qualifications
• Experience supporting construction or design-build projects
• Strong understanding of construction documentation and project coordination
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management tools
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
• Experience in commercial, industrial, or mechanical construction
• Experience managing project documentation, schedules, and budgets
• Knowledge of change order and contract administration processes
• Familiarity with safety compliance and construction regulations
• Internship or early-career experience in construction project management
