Position Summary

The Ultrasound Sonographer performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations under the direction of the Radiologist to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. This role is responsible for producing high-quality diagnostic images while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and compliance with departmental standards and procedures.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program required.

Registry eligible in Diagnostic Medical Sonography required.

-Must obtain and maintain a current Diagnostic Medical -Sonography license within six months of hire.

ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) certification preferred.

ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification preferred.

Current Louisiana Radiologic Technologist license preferred.

Minimum of two years of experience in a hospital or healthcare-related environment preferred.

Strong technical, communication, and patient care skills.

Ability to work independently and perform according to department standards with minimal supervision.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality patient care.

Emotional maturity and the ability to function effectively under stress.

Key Responsibilities

Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations as ordered by physicians and directed by the Radiologist.

Produce accurate, high-quality ultrasound images for physician interpretation.

Prepare and position patients for procedures while ensuring comfort and safety.

Obtain and document patient histories and examination information as appropriate.

Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment according to department standards.

Maintain accurate and timely patient records and imaging documentation.

Follow infection control, safety, and quality assurance guidelines.

Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and healthcare team members.

Observe professional ethics and maintain strict confidentiality of all patient, family, medical, financial, and employment information in accordance with HIPAA regulations and Riverside Medical Center policies.

Report equipment concerns, safety hazards, and operational issues as appropriate.

Participate in required safety training and continuing education programs.

Perform additional duties as assigned.
