Construction Financial Controller

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Construction Financial Controller to oversee and drive the financial operations of a growing construction organization. This role is responsible for managing all aspects of project-based accounting, financial reporting, and compliance within a construction environment.
The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in financial management, accounting standards, and construction-specific practices to ensure accurate reporting, effective cash flow management, and compliance with industry regulations. This individual will partner closely with leadership to support strategic decision-making and operational growth across multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, job costing, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and financial reporting
- Lead and mentor a small accounting team (approximately 3 team members)
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Manage Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and ensure accuracy in percentage-of-completion accounting
- Collaborate with project managers to monitor job costs, budgets, and forecasts
- Drive budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning initiatives
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and construction-specific accounting guidelines
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax professionals, and financial institutions
- Strengthen internal controls and identify opportunities for process improvement
- Serve as a trusted financial partner to executive leadership
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or advanced degree preferred)
- 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including significant experience within commercial construction
- Experience working in a mid-sized organization
- Experience managing or mentoring accounting staff
- Proficiency with construction accounting software (Foundation or similar strongly preferred)
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial reporting tools
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication abilities
Salary : $135,000 - $150,000
